County Meath has two of Ireland's big data center sites, both running. Meta operates its Clonee data center at Portan, on the Dublin border, and in 2019 added two buildings that brought the site to nearly 150,000 square meters. Amazon Web Services runs a data center in the IDA Business and Technology Park on the Donore Road outside Drogheda, where it has planned three buildings that together would use no more than 144 megawatts of power.

Amazon's first Drogheda building was approved by Meath County Council in February 2020 with no objections. The council approved a second, 48-megawatt building in June 2021, but An Taisce appealed, arguing that councils approve data centers one at a time without counting their combined energy use. An Bord Pleanála granted it in April 2022, finding it would not significantly affect Ireland's climate targets. AWS put the worst case for all three buildings at about 473,040 tonnes of carbon dioxide a year.

At Clonee, which Meta says represents a €1.4 billion investment supporting more than 300 jobs, engineers in the Connect union held a 24-hour strike on October 7, 2024, over new shift patterns that they said meant more weekends and nights. In March 2025 Meta proposed cutting 14 jobs at the site.
