Data centers in Mozambique: 1 project mapped

Mozambique's data center market has grown fast since 2024, almost all of it around Maputo. Raxio MZ1, the country's first Tier III certified facility, opened in May 2024 at the Beluluane Industrial Park outside the capital, offering 3 megawatts and room for up to 400 racks, with eight major telecom operators signed up at opening. In March 2025, Vodacom opened a $25 million data center at Tchumene in Matola that it calls the country's largest, with direct access to the 2Africa subsea cable. "Our country now has 18 data centers," Prime Minister Benvinda Levi said at the opening.

Digital Realty entered the market around 2023 through iColo, the African operator it took a majority stake in back in 2019, and has invested more than $2 billion across the continent. Local cloud provider Bubble, founded in 2023, runs one site in Maputo City and a second at Raxio's Beluluane campus; it says it is the first provider in Mozambique licensed as "advanced" by the national IT institute. South Africa's Telkom, through its BCX unit, has hosted Alibaba's cloud platform in a Maputo data center since June 2024.

The sites are small by global standards, and no dispute over their power or water use has been reported. Bubble says it is assessing two other southern African markets, and Vodacom's 2Africa link gives Maputo a direct international cable connection.
