Meta opened its Odense data center in 2019 after announcing the project in 2017. The original building covered 55,000 square meters, and the campus was connected to a district heating system that can use waste heat from its servers.
Meta later planned two more buildings totaling 90,000 square meters. In December 2022, it said it would end work on those two buildings while continuing to operate its existing Odense data center.
