Data centers in Egypt: 2 projects mapped
Egypt's data centers are small so far, and most are around Cairo. The largest, Telecom Egypt's International Data Center in the Smart Village in West Cairo, has about 4.6 megawatts of power. The biggest announced project is a $250 million data center at Maadi Technology Park in Cairo by the UAE's Khazna and Egypt's Benya Group, first announced in 2023 at 25 megawatts, expandable to 50, and due to be finished within three years.
Other plans are earlier still. In October 2024, Egypt's Intro Technology and Oman Data Park signed a memorandum of understanding for the Kemet Data Center, a $450 million, two-phase facility in the Suez Canal Economic Zone. In September 2026, Communications Minister Raafat Hindi met Heka Data and an unnamed US group of developers about a large data center and AI hub; the size and phases were still being discussed, and the ministry said such a hub needs reliable power.
Egypt's telecom regulator is pitching the country's undersea cables and spare electricity. Ahmed Yehia Hegazy of the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority told Arab Finance the industry "is deeply tied to electricity," adding: "A single data center can consume as much power as an entire industrial zone."
