Reliance Industries is building AI data centers at Jamnagar, and chairman Mukesh Ambani said in February 2026 that construction of "multi-gigawatt" centers there had already begun. On June 10, 2026, Reliance announced a 168-megawatt data center at Jamnagar that Meta will lease, Meta's first built-to-suit capacity in India, to be delivered within two years. Reliance says it will run on renewable power and be cooled with desalinated seawater.
The state wants many more. Gujarat's data center policy for 2026-29, in force since July 9, 2026, is open only to projects of at least 150 megawatts of power, which must get at least 51% of their main electricity from renewable sources. Help includes a power subsidy of 1 rupee per unit for 20 years, a 20% subsidy for private desalination plants and a 2.5% capital subsidy in the Dholera Special Investment Region, with total aid capped at 75% of eligible investment.
Within days, 20 companies had filed expressions of interest worth about Rs 8.5 lakh crore and 10.5 gigawatts, government sources told Vibes of India. Officials expect Adani, Tata, Welspun and others to build at Dholera, and say every proposal still needs detailed plans, land and permits. Incentives run until the state reaches 7.5 gigawatts. Ambani said Reliance's first 120-plus megawatts at Jamnagar would come online in the second half of 2026.
