Saitama had no large data centers until Princeton Digital Group, a Singapore-based operator, chose it for its first site in Japan. The TY1 campus in Saitama City, about 30 kilometres north of central Tokyo, sits on about 33,000 square metres. It is planned at 96 megawatts across two 48-megawatt buildings, with a total investment of about 1 billion US dollars. The first six-storey building opened in April 2025 and is designed for up to 140 kilowatts per rack for AI and GPU servers, with liquid cooling. The second, next door, will be built as demand allows.
The company's case for Saitama is power. The established Tokyo-area clusters in Inzai in Chiba and in western Tokyo have little land left and no spare power supply, PDG Japan's managing director, Takahashi, said. "The biggest factor in choosing Saitama was excellent access to power," he said, adding that Saitama has enough land and connections to Inzai, central Tokyo and submarine cable landing stations. Lendlease built the shell through its data center fund.
The first building's remaining floors are due to be fitted out by the end of December 2026.
