Data centers in Vaud: 1 project mapped
Vaud's most disputed data center is a plan for the Saint-Triphon quarry in Ollon: three halls totaling 14,000 square meters on three floors, about 3,000 server racks and 60 jobs, part of a 400 million franc project with a business campus next door, RTS reported in 2021. The canton's Greens still described it as planned in August 2026. Elsewhere in Vaud, Stack Infrastructure is spending 132 million francs to expand its campus in Gland, and Digital Realty has a data center in Eysins.
The Saint-Triphon Gare residents' association and Pro Natura objected; the residents called the project "bancal et mal intégré dans son environnement" (shaky and poorly fitted to its surroundings). The Greens say it would use 60 to 70 gigawatt-hours of power a year, more than 15,000 households.
On August 18, 2026 Green deputy Alberto Mocchi filed a motion, with at least 20 co-signers, asking the canton to follow Schaffhausen, which now requires data centers to reuse at least half their waste heat. The motion asks for mandatory criteria for any new or significantly expanded data center, and the Grand Council sent it to a committee for study.
