Data centers in Allen County, Indiana: 1 project mapped
Google is building a data center campus of up to 12 buildings on Fort Wayne's southeast side, near Adams Center and Paulding roads. In September 2026 it asked the state for 228 more emergency diesel generators on top of the 174 it already has; the original plan called for 34. The Fort Wayne City Council is set to vote October 13 on a one-year pause on approving new data centers, which would not affect the Google project.
The project arrived in October 2023 as "Project Zodiac," from an unnamed company, on nearly 900 acres; Google's name came out in January 2024, after the city had annexed the land, sold its share for about $11.4 million and approved a flat 50 percent tax break. The city expects Google to pay about $5.9 million a year in property tax at full build-out. Sharon Tucker, then the area's council member and now mayor, backed it: "This is not one, council, that I'm fighting."

Each generator increase has needed a state air permit change, three so far. Google says the generators run only for outages and required testing. More than a hundred people turned out to a state hearing in November 2025, ending with chants of "Deny, deny, deny." In March 2026 Google applied to move 3,415 feet of the Adams Ditch and fill a forested wetland for a third phase of three buildings, with construction from early 2027 into 2030.
In April the state utility commission approved a deal under which Google will cut its power use when the grid is strained in exchange for discounted rates from Indiana Michigan Power, which says the deal spares other customers the cost of grid upgrades. Councilwoman Rohli Booker, who now represents the district, proposed the pause and a set of development standards; amendments offered September 22 pushed the vote to October 13.
