Data centers in Onondaga County, New York: 1 project mapped

The one data center proposed in Onondaga County is Ranalli Super DC's 300-megawatt plan for a 124-acre industrial site at Hencle Boulevard and Oswego Road in Lysander, where the developer already has approval for a warehouse. No formal application has been filed with the town. Lysander's six-month moratorium, adopted unanimously on May 7, 2026, runs to November 7, 2026, and any application would go to the town planning board.

More than 350 residents came to the May 7 meeting to oppose the plan, and a petition against it passed 1,500 signatures, citing wildlife, air and water, home values and the risk that National Grid passes upgrade costs on to customers. Johanna Bock of Citizens for Lysander worries about who would answer for problems if a facility were sold to a shell company: "So we as a community could have issues and we wouldn't have anywhere to go to." Supervisor Kevin Rode said the state's one-year pause on permits for big data centers covers the site because nothing had been filed before it began.

The county cannot ban or pause data centers itself, so towns are acting on their own. By June 2026 DeWitt, Lysander, Manlius, Salina and Van Buren had moratoriums and Skaneateles had banned data centers outright, county Planning Director Troy Waffner told legislators; Clay adopted a one-year moratorium on June 29, 2026, though no data center has been proposed there. The county is paying up to $500,000 for a neutral consultant's study to help towns decide. "This is not a pro-data center study," Waffner said.
