Data centers in Roberts County, Texas: 1 project mapped
Roberts County, in the Texas Panhandle, holds part of the site of the Meitner Energy Center, a Google data center being built alongside its own power plants. Google and Intersect, the clean energy developer Alphabet bought for $4.75 billion in a deal that closed in March 2026, announced on June 4, 2026 that construction had begun on the project in Gray and Roberts Counties. The data center is to come online together with more than a gigawatt of new wind, solar and battery storage, with on-site gas generation covering what Google called a "minority share" of demand, meaning the campus will not need much new power from the local grid.
The Roberts County piece first showed up in state paperwork. In February 2026 IP Meitner Land LLC, an Intersect affiliate, registered Project Pumpkin 2A with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation: a single-story data center building of 761,000 square feet at 8830 County Road 21, Miami, with $400 million to be invested and construction running from February 2026 to December 2027. The filing lists Miami in Gray County, though the town is in Roberts County, about 23 miles northeast of Pampa. The wider Meitner project around Pampa had earlier been reported as a $3 billion development of three buildings totaling 2 million square feet, with about 840 megawatts of on-site power.

Google has not said how big the data center will be, how much power it will draw at peak, or when it will open. On water, the company says the campus will be air-cooled, not evaporative, limiting water use to restrooms and other domestic needs. The largest local effect may be the workforce: Google is building the Caprock Workforce Hub in neighboring Wheeler County, an 800-acre managed camp for up to 3,500 construction workers who will be carried to the site by dedicated transport to keep traffic off county roads. Neither its cost nor who will run it has been disclosed.
Google has other data centers under construction in Armstrong, Haskell and Wilbarger Counties, part of a $40 billion Texas commitment through 2027.
