9 Lives Digital Group (9LDG), the company behind the proposed 9Lives Data Center, bought the shuttered Globe Metallurgical plant at 3807 Highland Avenue in Niagara Falls' North End, Niagara County, New York, in July 2024. President Michael Bagley said the company would build an artificial intelligence data center, logistics hub and warehouse on the 22-acre site, which already has a 100 megawatt substation. The $3 million sale closed on July 16, 2024; Bagley said the data center would cost about $100 million, create roughly 500 construction jobs, and take 18 to 24 months to build. "This is a comeback story for me, and part of a comeback story for Niagara Falls," Bagley told the Buffalo News.

Bagley was sentenced to four years in federal prison in February 2019 for helping launder drug-trafficking proceeds for people he believed were tied to a Mexican cartel, and published reports say he served about two years; he says people shouldn't believe everything they read and that he is now focused on redeveloping the region. Buffalo Business First reported that a mortgage document names Gjergj M. Hajati, who has served two prison sentences for fraud, as a management member of the company that bought the property.

Instead of a data center, neighbors reported bitcoin mining containers and heavy equipment moving onto the site, and as of January 2025 no building permits had been pulled for it. City administrator Anthony Restaino said Niagara Falls had received no site plans or demolition permits for the project and would be "monitoring what activity is taking place out there." Any data center on the site still needs city permits, and nothing has surfaced publicly since.
