atNorth SWE04 data center, Sollefteå, Västernorrland

atNorth, a Nordic data center company, has bought about 50 hectares at Hamre Industrial Park in Långsele, Sollefteå Municipality, Västernorrland County, Sweden, for SWE04, a data center campus of up to 300 megawatts of power that it aims to open in 2028. The municipal council voted for the sale on February 23, 2026, and the contract was signed that same evening. The municipality says the price, 175 million kronor, is based on an independent land valuation from January 2026.

In May 2026, atNorth and grid operator E.ON Energidistribution agreed to a 200-megawatt grid connection, which requires a new substation at Hamre and an overhead power line of about five kilometers to the national-grid station at Nässe. atNorth says the site will support direct liquid cooling and up to 1 megawatt per rack, and that it will seek partners to reuse the campus's waste heat.

"Our Sollefteå campus represents a significant milestone for the company and demonstrates our commitment to building data center ecosystems that deliver both technical excellence and long-term value for local communities," said chief executive Eyjólfur Magnús Kristinsson. atNorth first secured land at Hamre in 2024, then describing an initial 200-megawatt mega site. atNorth was acquired by Equinix and the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board in a $4.2 billion deal; the municipality's own site tells residents atNorth will keep the same local Nordic focus despite the change in ownership.

The municipality expects about 100 to 150 direct jobs and several hundred more during construction, and says it gives no grants or subsidies to the project. Before construction, atNorth needs a building permit from Sollefteå Municipality and an environmental permit from the Västernorrland County Administrative Board covering cooling methods and water use, while E.ON handles permitting for the new power line.
