Black Mountain Power, a Texas energy company building a network of data center sites, bought 432 acres at State Highway 16 and Lone Star Pass on the south side of San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas, in January 2026, land that could become a data center campus. The site was bought from Ballard Exploration Co., which lent the company about $64.5 million as part of the deal, according to county property records.
Black Mountain has not said what it plans to build on the San Antonio land. Founded in 2007, the company invests mainly in oil and gas and lithium mining and is moving into battery storage, water, carbon capture and data centers. Its founder and chief executive, Rhett Bennett, told the Public Utility Commission of Texas that the company is developing more than 15 data centers across the state.
