Camp Monterey Data Center, Beaver Dams, New York

No data center has been proposed at Camp Monterey, and no developer has put its name to one. What exists is a set of emails obtained under New York's freedom of information law and published on May 27, 2026, between Judy McKinney Cherry, executive director of FLX Gateway, and Greg Hering, co-founder and director of development at ClearPath Energy, discussing data barns at Beaver Dams, in Schuyler County, and other places in the Southern Tier. In November 2025 Hering asked about industrial electrical service, water storage and the capacity of the wastewater treatment plant; on January 23, 2026 the exchange turned to data barns, data center conferences and fibre plans.

The former Camp Monterey property has three productive wells yielding about 140,000 gallons a day, sits near a 115 kilovolt line and has natural gas about half a mile off. One message says simply: "I only need 4 acres, lots of power and gas." Seneca Lake Guardian, the group that has spent years fighting the cryptocurrency operation at Dresden, obtained the emails and shared screenshots publicly.

FLX Gateway is an economic development body rather than a data center company, which is why the emails matter: they are the only public record of the interest. FLX Gateway's own listing describes Camp Monterey as a 25 acre redevelopment site at 2150 Evergreen Hill Road in the Town of Orange, with its own water and wastewater system, more than 86,000 square feet of buildings and access to a $5 million reimbursable grant.
