Centre WISP SCDC1 data center, State College, Pennsylvania

Centre WISP Venture Company runs SCDC1, a small colocation data center at 2038 Sandy Drive in State College, Centre County, Pennsylvania. As of May 2026, no plans for a new data center had been submitted anywhere in Centre County, StateCollege.com reported.

Local governments in the area are writing rules in case one is proposed. College Township became the first Centre Region municipality to adopt conditional use zoning for data centers in February 2026, giving it about 120 days to review any application and attach conditions such as buffer zones and energy and water use standards, assistant manager Mike Bloom told WJAC.

In May 2026, Ferguson Township's supervisors voted to have the planning commission write similar conditional use rules and to explore a shared land use agreement with another municipality, after 16 residents spoke during an 80-minute hearing. "You cannot go two miles in any direction without coming across two or three data centers," said Tim Stedman, who moved to the township from Northern Virginia and called the prospect "an absolute disaster." Dave Gibbons, who owns a commercial building in the township, warned that "a blanket 'no' on data centers will be really detrimental to Ferguson Township" because local tech businesses along the Science Park Road corridor already rely on data centers of their own.

Snow Shoe Township has also amended its zoning rules for data centers, and Rush and Half Moon townships are working on their own, county planning director Ray Stolinas said.
