EdgeConneX AUS02 data center, Cedar Creek, Texas

EdgeConneX AUS02 is a $440 million data center at 8001 Wolf Lane in Cedar Creek, Bastrop County, Texas, where state and county records name the AI cloud company CoreWeave as the expected tenant. County officials said in June 2026 that the two-story, 578,000-square-foot building was expected to be finished that summer; Community Impact reported in August 2026 it was expected to open that month. No report since has said whether it opened, and its status stays under construction.

Bastrop County approved a 10-year, 75% property tax abatement for the building in December 2024 and assigned that benefit to CoreWeave in October 2025. The Texas Comptroller certified the building for a 20-year exemption from state and local sales taxes on the equipment, electricity and cooling systems it uses. County documents projected about 60 permanent jobs and 400 to 600 daily construction jobs.

EdgeConneX is also building two more, separate campuses nearby on FM 535: one of 951 acres and about $1.4 billion in planned buildings, and a smaller one still in early planning. Those campuses are apart from AUS02, and EdgeConneX has not sought tax abatements for them. Many neighbors say they only learned of the projects after county commissioners approved AUS02 in 2024; at a commissioner's request, EdgeConneX held town halls in three towns in June 2026 on water use and infrastructure.

Residents packed a July meeting in Bastrop where state Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller called for a moratorium on data centers. "We chose Cedar Creek to build our homes, we have families, my six kids are supposed to be growing up in this area, next to a data center," resident Mary Santana said. County Judge Gregory Klaus has said the county has little power to stop such projects once they meet existing legal requirements, since Texas counties have limited zoning authority.

Bastrop County commissioners held a public hearing on July 27 on new tax-abatement rules that would require future applicants to disclose environmental effects and create at least 25 jobs, a quarter of them filled by county residents. On August 10 commissioners again tabled a separate request asking the Texas Legislature for more authority over large industrial projects, with no new hearing date set.
