Fort Cherry Development District data center, McDonald, Pennsylvania

Liberty Energy, developer Imperial Land Corporation and gas producer Range Resources announced an alliance in April 2025 to build a natural gas power plant at the Fort Cherry Development District, an industrial park in Robinson Township near McDonald, Washington County, Pennsylvania. The plant would burn Marcellus Shale gas to supply data centers and other large energy users at the park, but the companies have not disclosed its capacity or timeline, and no data center has been proposed for the site itself.

Range Resources' Alan Engberg said the site sits close to the Ohio River, the city of Pittsburgh and a newly renovated airport. Imperial Land says the park, off the Southern Beltway and PA-576, could eventually hold about 6 million square feet of industrial and flex space, with three pad-ready sites built in its first phase.

U.S. Sen. Dave McCormick visited the park in May 2026 with Washington County Commission Chairman Nick Sherman to promote a federal energy bill, and called critics of data centers "naysayers." No data center tenant, capacity or construction timeline for the plant has been announced since.
