NEXTDC S7 / OpenAI Western Sydney data center, Eastern Creek NSW, New South Wales

NextDC has proposed S7, a 612-megawatt data center campus in Eastern Creek, a logistics hub in Sydney's western suburbs in New South Wales, Australia, according to planning documents reported by Data Center Dynamics in July 2026. OpenAI is set to be the initial anchor tenant under a memorandum of understanding signed in December 2025 that would make S7 an Australian Stargate site. The project still needs approval from the New South Wales government before construction can begin.

NextDC bought the 255,135-square-meter parcel, south of Honeycomb Drive and east of Future Archbold Road, for AU$353 million in October 2024, and said then it would offer up to 550 megawatts of power at full buildout. A preliminary plan shows nine data center buildings spread across three blocks, plus a substation.

The state planning portal describes three two-story data storage buildings with 340 back-up diesel generators, diesel fuel storage and an on-site substation. The project has been valued at AU$7 billion, and the first phase is expected to be delivered in the second half of 2027 if it is approved.

NextDC says the campus will use closed-loop, high-density liquid cooling that will not require ongoing drinking water for cooling, and will draw power through long-term purchase agreements for new wind, solar and battery projects. It pitches S7 as a sovereign AI facility that keeps data and computing within Australia's jurisdiction, available to other organizations that need sovereign computing capacity. NextDC chief executive Craig Scroggie called it a "world leading piece of sustainable digital infrastructure that will demonstrate that Australia can be a leader in digital infrastructure and artificial intelligence."

The neighborhood is filling up: Goodman filed in January 2026 for its own Eastern Creek campus, Project Atlas, of up to 500 megawatts. S7 is a State Significant Development, meaning the New South Wales government, not Blacktown City Council, decides on it. NextDC is now preparing an Environmental Impact Statement, a report on the project's effects on land, water and traffic, which will go on public display before the state takes public comments and makes a decision.
