Nscale Glomfjord data center, Nordland, Norway

Nscale's Glomfjord data center, in the small industrial town of Glomfjord in Nordland, northern Norway, just above the Arctic Circle, is operating at 30 megawatts of power, and the company is expanding it to 60 megawatts. Nscale inherited the site from the cryptomining company Arkon Energy, which it was spun out of in 2024.

In March 2025, Nscale and the modular builder InfraPartners announced a liquid-cooled 30 megawatt building next to the existing facility, built from modules made off-site. "With an existing 30MW site and access to an abundance of hydroelectric power, this expansion to 60MW allows us to provide sustainable AI compute with European data sovereignty at a more affordable cost compared with competitors," said Alex Sharp, then Nscale's chief operating officer.

Nscale says the town of about 1,000 people grew up around a 120 megawatt hydropower plant built at the end of the fjord more than a century ago, and that the data center runs entirely on the region's hydropower with adiabatic cooling. The company says it is investing in local infrastructure and jobs and is looking at reusing the data center's heat, for example to warm the local swimming pool.

Glomfjord is Nscale's first Norwegian site but no longer its largest; the company's biggest Nordland project, a data center campus for Microsoft near Narvik, was called one of Europe's biggest AI data center projects by TIME in June 2026.
