TERRANOVA San Miguel de Allende data center, Guanajuato, Mexico

TERRANOVA, the data center company the British investor Actis launched in December 2025, said in February 2026 it was building a second Mexican data center in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, for delivery in early 2026. The company's first Mexican site, in the neighboring Queretaro region, went live that same month with 8.12 megawatts of IT capacity, after being designed in two months and built in ten.

Guanajuato's economy ministry told the newspaper AM in September 2026 that two data centers operate in the state, both run by ODATA, in San Miguel de Allende and Apaseo el Grande, and that a third is being built in San Miguel de Allende by a company it could not name under a confidentiality agreement. The ministry did not confirm that TERRANOVA is behind that third project, and TERRANOVA has not said publicly whether its own San Miguel site has opened.

The ministry put the three projects together at $630 million of investment and 200 direct jobs. On August 10, 2026, Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo opened a new power plant at the same San Miguel de Allende business park, built by Corral Energy for more than $45 million in its first stage, with 60 megawatts of capacity and a 230-kilovolt connection.

ODATA opened its QR04 data center in the same business park in August 2025, designed for 24 megawatts with a first 12-megawatt phase. Its operations director, Carlos Forero, said the company's water use was minimal.

Asked on September 11, 2026 about local concern over water and energy use, the governor said such investments come with their own water treatment, reuse, power plants and substations, so they do not burden the town's supply. The state says any further details, including whether TERRANOVA's own site is complete, will be announced when the companies involved allow it.
