Western Hospitality Partners Data Center, Braidwood, Illinois

Western Hospitality Partners' planned eight-building data center campus near Interstate 55 and Reed Road in Braidwood, Will County, Illinois, has been suspended since January 2026, a pause the city blamed on "ComEd's internal demands and regulations regarding its infrastructure." The New York developer, working with Found Digital, is drawn by the nearby 2.2 gigawatt Braidwood Nuclear Generating Station.

A public meeting planned for May 2025 was called off before Western Hospitality Partners closed on the land. County records show the company paid $3,150,000 for a 158 acre parcel at 26125 W. Kennedy Road, and the sale closed on August 28, 2025, according to the Braidwood Journal. On November 12, 2025, the City Council passed an inducement resolution, a formal statement that the city might issue tax-exempt bonds, opening the door to a possible fourth tax increment financing district.

City attorney Bryan Wellner said the city was only exploring that option and thought it unlikely to create the district unless the data center went ahead within the city. The pause followed new ComEd rules, introduced January 6, 2026, that require firm financial commitments from projects of at least 50 megawatts of power and a letter of credit covering 10 years of transmission service revenue.

"After taking office, I shared publicly that the city was exploring a potential annexation related to this project and that additional research was needed," Mayor Todd Lyons said. The developer has closed on the land while the city is still deciding whether to annex it, and Lyons said the city would hold a public meeting for community input at a later date.
