Xi'an is China Mobile's main data hub for the region. Two facilities are mapped here, run by Huawei Cloud and China Telecom, though neither has turned up in published news coverage; the best-documented site in the city belongs to China Mobile. In January 2022, Data Center Dynamics reported that Huawei had built China Mobile a five-storey modular data center of 938 cabinets in six months, assembled from 232 factory-built modules, to handle a surge in mobile data from tourists. China Mobile first set up a campus in Xi'an in 2015.
The building uses indirect evaporative cooling, and Huawei said Xi'an's cool climate lets it run on outside air for about ten months a year. The city sits outside the eight regions China named in 2022 for its national data center buildout; the nearest one, in Gansu province, lies to the northwest. No public dispute over a data center in Shaanxi is on the record so far.
