Bogotá and the surrounding Sabana are Colombia's main cluster of data centers, the business daily Portafolio reported on August 30, 2026. Ascenty and Equinix run data centers in the city, and Claro runs its Triara data centers here. Equinix, IFX, Oracle and Claro are among the companies that have announced new data center investments in Colombia in recent months.
Power is the industry's main worry. Colombia's whole data center market uses only about 50 megawatts of computer power, expected to reach about 80 by the end of 2026, Portafolio reported. "Colombia has the connectivity to compete and does not yet have the energy," technology consultant Victor Muñoz told the paper in Spanish. Claro Colombia's president, Rodrigo de Gusmão, said the industry needs "energy, agile regulation and a long-term state vision."

Water is the city's own memory. After a drought drained its reservoirs, Bogotá rationed water in April 2024 for the first time in more than four decades: more than 8 million people in the city and 11 nearby towns lost water for 24 hours every nine days until April 2025, the Associated Press reported. "In my 60 years, I've never lived through anything like this," resident Lidia Rodríguez said.
On September 17, 2026, Mayor Carlos Fernando Galán said the Chingaza reservoir system, the city's main supply, was at 95% and there would be no rationing during this year's El Niño. He urged faster work on the Norte-Chivor and Sogamoso power lines, 81% and 68% complete, and warned of risks for Bogotá if they are not fully running by October 2027.
