Both data centers mapped in the Capital Region are in Ballerup, on the western edge of Copenhagen. atNorth's DEN01 opened its first phase in the last quarter of 2025 after a 12-month build and offers 30 megawatts of power for computers, the company says. Digital Realty runs its Copenhagen campus nearby, where it began building a third data center, CPH3, planned at up to 14.4 megawatts.
DEN01's waste heat is meant to warm local homes. atNorth has signed a deal with Vestforbrænding, Denmark's largest waste-to-energy company, to feed the data center's surplus heat into its district heating network, enough for more than 8,000 homes starting in 2028. "For many years, we have talked about surplus heat from data centers being part of the future," Vestforbrænding's chief executive, Steen Neuchs Vedel, said. "Now the future is here."
Any new data center here now waits on the power grid. On March 2, 2026, the state grid operator Energinet stopped signing new grid connections nationwide, with about 60 gigawatts of requests queued against a national peak demand of about 7 gigawatts; data centers made up about 14 gigawatts of that. The pause ended June 3, but Energinet will not decide on new large connections until its first round under stricter rules, expected in the last three months of 2026, and warned many new customers could wait five to 10 years.
