Kanta-Häme's data center is QTS's planned campus in Forssa, in the Ratasmäki and Rytökallio industrial area, next to a Fingrid national grid power line. QTS is owned by Blackstone, which signed a preliminary agreement with the city in March 2025 for more than 100 hectares; Forssa's mayor, Jari Kesäniemi, said at the time that it could become one of the largest data center projects in Europe, and Yle reported a maximum power draw of up to 450MW. The city says it has since completed the land sales, for about €4 million, which it says matches or exceeds outside valuations. QTS describes it as its first campus in Finland, on a 150-hectare site, and expects more than 300 operational jobs at full build-out and more than 500 construction jobs at peak. The local development partner is Brunswick Real Estate.
The project has cleared the main local hurdles without a fight on the record. The detailed plan for the area took legal effect in December 2025 with no appeals lodged by the deadline, Kesäniemi told Yle. On July 23, 2026, the city granted the first building permit to QTS's Finnish company, Green 3 Finland Oy, for a plot of almost 44 hectares at Masmalokatu 1: a three-storey building of almost 60,000 square metres with nine data halls of 9MW each, 81MW in total, plus a substation, service and guard buildings and a waste-heat recovery system. Space is reserved for two more data center buildings whose permits will be sought later, and Fingrid is to build a switching station in the south-west corner. The permit allowed preparatory work to start before it took legal effect in early September, against a €300,000 guarantee to cover restoration if the project stopped. QTS says phase one construction is tentatively set for 2027 and that it will use a closed-loop, water-free cooling system.

Forssa is one of several large projects in Finland's data center boom. Google announced in September 2026 a €13 billion, two-year investment in Hamina, Kajaani, Muhos and Vaala, and TikTok has planned a €1 billion, 150MW data center in Kouvola. QTS held supplier briefings in Forssa on August 25, 2026 and ran a training open day with the regional vocational college the next day.
The concerns documented are ecological rather than political. The state permits and supervision agency, Lupa- ja valvontavirasto, found in the environmental impact assessment that without mitigation the project could have significant negative effects in some respects. Flying squirrels, moor frogs and a protected dragonfly, the täpläkorento, live on the site: the flying squirrels' core territory is to be kept with a buffer zone and extra trees, and a pond used by the frogs and dragonflies will be fenced and its water level monitored during construction. Stormwater will be run through settling and retention basins. Forssa's lead building inspector, Jukka Laaksonen, told Yle the permit decision ran so long it was "like a novel." How much electricity the full campus will ultimately draw, and when Blackstone makes its final investment decision on the later buildings, have not been published.
