Core Scientific has run and is expanding a data center at 1571 West Samford Avenue in Auburn since taking over the existing AUBix building in February 2025. It started at 16 megawatts of power with room to grow, and in February 2026 secured a $55 million permit for Brasfield & Gorrie to add new cooling systems there.
The company signed a 10-year lease on the 5.7-acre site in September 2024 and plans to buy the building, with more than $400 million in total investment expected. Auburn Mayor Ron Anders said the city projects that will bring in $1.5 million a year for schools and other services. The February 2026 permit work was not expected to affect nearby neighborhoods, according to WTVM.
The building's ownership was in question this fall. CoreWeave had agreed in July 2025 to buy Core Scientific in an all-stock deal worth about $9 billion, but Core Scientific's own shareholders voted the merger down on October 30, 2025, and the company terminated the agreement that day, according to its filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The Auburn site remains Core Scientific's.
