Serverfarm is building a $6.6 billion data center campus on about 135 acres north of Interstate 40 in Clarksville, next to Johnson Regional Medical Center. Work began in January 2026. On July 30 the City Council unanimously approved up to $55 billion in industrial revenue bonds for the project, and residents are now collecting signatures to force a public vote on them. The council's next regular meeting is October 12.

The first phase is four buildings needing about 432 megawatts of power, more than eight times the city utility's current peak demand of about 50 megawatts. At first the power will come from 40 natural gas turbines built on site by Solaris. The city utility has agreed to supply up to 50,000 gallons of drinking water a day, and up to another 1.45 million gallons a day by July 2027. The deal gives a 65 percent property tax break for up to 30 years, plus $1 million each to the city, the county and the hospital.

Karen Fawley watched the hillside being cleared from her mother's hospital window. "We knew that it was gonna happen, or we at least thought it was gonna happen, but we didn't know when," she said. At a community town hall in July, only two of six council members came, and they said they could not answer many of the more than 80 questions residents sent in. Mayor David Rieder held his own meeting at the same time.

Organizers filed referendum petitions on August 25 but had to start over because the petitions had not first been filed with the county clerk. Each needs 291 signatures from registered Clarksville voters. An ordinance setting a special election was pulled from the September 14 agenda because the signatures had not been certified.
