Data centers in Arapahoe County, Colorado: 3 projects mapped

Colorado's largest data center projects are in Aurora. QTS is finishing a three-building campus on 65 acres south of Denver International Airport that will need at least 160 megawatts of power: one building is done, a second is nearly finished and work has started on the third. About four miles north, Vantage Data Centers has proposed Trident, two buildings totaling 861,866 square feet on 143 acres, with about 500 megawatts of total power demand. Because the site is zoned industrial, city staff can approve Trident without a public hearing.

On September 14, 2026 the Aurora City Council unanimously banned evaporative cooling in new data centers to save water; the ban goes to a final vote at the council's next meeting. A zoning change listing where data centers may go is headed to the Planning Commission and then back to the council later this year. In August the council rejected a six-month moratorium proposed by Council member Amy Wiles, whose ward includes the Trident site. "The community response has been overwhelming," she said. "They do not want data centers, period."

QTS has 40 diesel backup generators and has applied to state regulators to add 98 more, fitted with exhaust controls, in an area that already fails federal ozone standards. Its closed-loop cooling uses about 2,400 gallons of water a day. Trident would have 28 diesel generators.
