Data centers in Irwin County, Georgia: 1 project mapped
Irwin County, a rural county in south central Georgia, has been asked to host one of the largest data centers proposed in the state. Premier Data Center Development LLC filed for Project Arrowhead, a five-building, 4.22 million-square-foot campus of up to 1.25 gigawatts of power on about 1,000 acres of farmland outside the community of Mystic, owned by the Fletcher Marcus D Trust and Sirrom Farms, DCD reported. Up to $6 billion could be invested, with a first phase in 2030 and full build-out by 2034; Georgia Power was completing an energy study. Part of the land had been earmarked for an earlier proposal, the 17-building Irwin Forward Tech Park, which its applicant withdrew in March 2026 even though the planning commission had recommended approval.
The worry is water. The Georgia Water Coalition wrote in the state's regional impact review that Arrowhead would be the first data center in Georgia it knew of that would draw directly from the Floridan Aquifer, and the Suwannee-Satilla Regional Water Planning Council urged low-water or water-free cooling, according to documents posted by the WWALS Watershed Coalition, which is the Suwannee Riverkeeper and opposes the project. The site is near the Alapaha River. Fifteen residents filed comments raising well water, power bills, noise, farmland and the loss of generational land. A Change.org petition against data centers in the county passed 580 signatures; it claims Google will occupy the site, which has not been confirmed.

Irwin County commissioners passed a data center ordinance setting standards for setbacks and noise, and approved a special exception for the data center at a special called meeting on May 20, 2026, according to WWALS. The Southern Georgia Regional Commission has completed the regional review. Opponents held a public meeting at the Irwinville Community Center on July 29.
The end user, the volume of groundwater the campus would draw, and Georgia Power's energy study are not public, and no construction date has been announced.
