Frankfort's City Council voted 5-2 on September 28, 2026, to approve an agreement with DataOne for a $7.5 billion AI data center on about 115 acres of the Logix Innovation Campus in the city's industrial park, land already zoned for light industry. It is not a building permit: before breaking ground, DataOne must deliver noise, environmental and traffic studies. Council members Isac Chavez and Robert Stevens voted no.
The campus would use about 525 megawatts of power, 350 from the grid through the Indiana Municipal Power Agency and 175 from natural gas fuel cells on site, with no diesel generators. DataOne says its closed-loop cooling will use about 8 million gallons of water a year; the agreement caps it at 14 million. The company would pay the city $1 million at signing and, from 2030, $4.5 million a year, and get back half its real property taxes for 10 years. It must create 100 full-time jobs by 2030.

The city's financial adviser, Gary Smith, said state tax changes will cost Frankfort about $4.3 million a year by 2030, and projected $331 million for the city through 2054. Most residents who spoke at the packed meeting urged the council to slow down or say no. "Public trust is not built behind closed doors," said Tammy Danner. Speakers also cited a $1.07 million New Jersey penalty against DataOne's Vineland data center over generators the state says ran without air permits.
The county turned down a far larger plan in January. On January 20, 2026, the County Commissioners voted 3-0 against rezoning about 715 acres of farmland outside Frankfort for a data center campus, also for DataOne. "Given what this has put our community through and given that the majority of our residents are against this project, I cannot support the rezone," Commissioner Kevin Myers said. The denial bars the same request until early 2027.
