Kentucky Industrial Alliance LLC wants to build a data center campus of up to 1,200 megawatts of power, about ten buildings, on roughly 380 acres at 2001 Doyle Avenue in Cave City, about 10 miles from Mammoth Cave National Park. The project is on hold: Cave City adopted a one-year moratorium on data centers in May 2026, and the company is suing to have its plan reviewed under the old rules. On August 24 Judge John T. Alexander combined the company's two lawsuits and will decide first whether the city's annexation of the land was valid.
The company says it filed its plan before the moratorium; the city says it filed only a two-page form without the required plan or drawings on May 11. The second suit argues the annexation was invalid because a small cemetery on the land had an owner who never agreed. The company's attorney, Brandon Murley, said the annexation question should come first because "if they don't have jurisdiction to even do the moratorium ... that would resolve it."

"I feel it to be the death of Cave City," resident Kathy Minor said at a July protest. Angie Herald, who says the site is "literally in my backyard," worried about runoff into sinkholes: "that goes directly into our cave system, and this is a national park."
Outside its cities, Barren County has no zoning. After four town halls, the county is drafting its first land-use ordinance, and the Fiscal Court is expected to hold the first reading this fall after a public hearing before the Joint City-County Planning Commission. County Attorney Mike Richardson has said a moratorium without zoning behind it would not survive a court challenge.
