Data centers in Rankin County, Mississippi: 1 project mapped

Rankin County's data center is AVAIO Digital's Taurus campus in Brandon, at the East Metropolitan Center Business and Industrial Park. Gov. Tate Reeves announced it in August 2025 as a $6 billion investment, the third largest in state history after Amazon Web Services in Madison County and Compass Datacenters in Meridian. The Connecticut developer promises at least 60 direct jobs and expects construction to be complete in the first half of 2027. Entergy Mississippi will supply power. The Mississippi Development Authority approved the project for the state's data center tax exemption and had earlier helped develop the park with a site development grant, and Rankin County and the city are also assisting. "This project will not only transform Rankin County and the Metro Jackson region, it will transform our economic landscape and lead to even more high-tech leaders choosing Mississippi," Reeves said. Brandon Mayor Butch Lee called it "a monumental day for the city of Brandon."

Some residents want guarantees first. A petition to the Rankin County Board of Supervisors, which gathered nearly 1,000 signatures, asks for written confirmation that the campus "will not result in any increase in utility bills or cause air or water pollution" and, failing that, urges the county to "immediately stop the planned construction." "I'm even more concerned about the secrecy surrounding this process," said resident Bailey Henry. "If this is such a great development for Mississippi, then why have Mississippians been kept in the dark on this?" The governor's office defended the state's data center push. "Our state reviews data center projects on a case-by-case basis to ensure Mississippi has the resources needed to sustain them," said Reeves's deputy chief of staff, Cory Custer. The supervisors did not respond to SuperTalk Mississippi's questions. Construction is under way.
