Data centers in Atascosa County, Texas: 1 project mapped
Atascosa County's data center arrived as rumor before it arrived as a proposal. On June 15, 2026, County Judge Weldon Cude's office said the county had been flooded with questions about a possible data center, but that the company involved had not contacted local officials, so it could not confirm details. News 4 San Antonio reported the land in question is two plots totaling more than 1,500 acres, one of them a few miles northwest of Jourdanton.
Residents organized as Atascosa County Against Data Centers. Members Jacqueline and Oscar Korus told News 4 their concerns were water, noise and health, and that they wanted the process paused until the Legislature acts. "What we're against is reckless growth," Oscar Korus said, calling for air quality monitors, groundwater surveys and road improvements before any construction. At a July 7 public meeting at the Atascosa County Justice Center, dozens of residents questioned officials; one rancher said, "I think right now the county's not ready for it." Judge Cude said no contracts or agreements had been signed for any data center in the county.

A data center developer called Tract has separately listed a 720-megawatt site named Applewhite on Old Applewhite Road near Poteet on its own project page, a different location from the Jourdanton land, and it is not clear if the two are connected. A third possibility is Energy Ranch, a more than 1,500-acre campus that the oil and gas investors HC Capital Partners and the San Antonio-based Herrmann Family Companies, which owns the land, announced in January 2026, targeting 250 megawatts of power in early 2028 and growing to 1 to 3 gigawatts.
Any project here now also faces Gov. Greg Abbott's statewide pause: an August 3 order requiring data centers to pass an ERCOT audit before connecting to the grid, and a September 21 directive halting state environmental permits for data centers until that audit is done.
