Data centers in Haskell County, Texas: 2 projects mapped
Haskell County, about 50 miles north of Abilene, is where Google is building part of the $40 billion Texas expansion it announced in November 2025, filed under affiliates rather than Google's name. Data Center Dynamics reported in July 2026 that Housebound Group LLC had registered two buildings at 1362 Red Creek Road in the north of the county, Journey 1A and Journey 2A, each a $400 million project of 285,280 and 210,420 square feet, with construction started on April 1 and June 23, 2026.
A second Google-linked campus, Thelma, lies in the south of the county and is further along. A wastewater application for it describes five buildings, the first 280,000 square feet and a second 350,000; the research firm Aterio estimates its total power capacity at around 440 megawatts. The county approved abatements for Journey and Thelma in June 2025, and a third Google-linked campus, developed by Ascendant Site Solutions, received one in April 2026.

Crusoe, which built the Stargate campus for Oracle and OpenAI in Abilene, is next. County records show commissioners designated a reinvestment zone for it on April 28, 2026, for a project whose first phase is put at about $1 billion, with a ten-year abatement on each of up to seven phases; the executed agreement carries a Crusoe signature dated July 21, 2026.
The effects are showing up in nearby towns. Stamford, on the border of Haskell and Jones counties, is seeing multiple houses built at once for the first time since the 1980s, Mayor James Decker told KTXS in May, some bought by workers who could not find affordable housing in Abilene. "It's jarring. It's very jarring to suddenly realize that the focus of this AI data center rush is in your area," Decker said. "We don't want to be chewed up and spit out by the data center boom."
