Data centers in Snohomish County, Washington: 1 project mapped
Snohomish County's only tracked data center is Centersquare's colocation facility on Highway 99 in Lynnwood, an operating site with 17.3 megawatts of utility capacity. There is no large new project proposed in the county right now, but on June 24, 2026 the County Council still adopted Emergency Ordinance 26-026, a six-month hold on new data center applications anywhere in unincorporated Snohomish County. It covers any facility with a planned electrical load of 2 megawatts or more and runs until it expires or is renewed after a hearing.
"The purpose of the moratorium is to press 'pause' so that our county has the ability to carefully deliberate on what a long-term data center policy should look like," wrote Councilman Nate Nehring, its sponsor. Edmonds resident Joan Smith warned of thin snowpack and drought risk to water supplies, while Charles Burgess of the Laborers' International Union said his union did not oppose the pause but wants any future data center to meet apprenticeship and labor standards. The council held its required public hearing on August 19; the moratorium expires December 25, 2026 unless renewed.

Marysville's city council passed its own six-month moratorium on July 13, 2026 while it finishes water and sewer studies. "We're not saying 'no' to data centers," council member Kelly Richards said. "We're just trying to figure out what we are actually willing to accept." Arlington clarified in June that its code does not allow data centers, after a rumored project called Project Cascade turned out to be an unrelated Amazon facility.
Snohomish PUD treats any customer over 2.5 megawatts as a large load, requires a costly system impact study before connecting new developments, and says it would have to secure new power supply for any large data center. "We're not pro or anti-data center. Our goal is to be pro-local," said Chief Customer Officer John Hoffman. Local reporting has also pointed to a Ziply Fiber facility near Paine Field, drawing about 1.1 megawatts, as one of the county's few existing data centers, though it doesn't appear in the tracked list above.
