Hunting Hawk Data Center, Glen Allen, Virginia

HHHunt planned ten data center buildings, 3.9 million square feet, on the 410-acre Hunting Hawk Golf Club site near Glen Allen, north of Wyndham in Hanover County, Virginia, with its own substations, water and sewer systems. The county planning commission voted unanimously to recommend denial, and HHHunt withdrew its applications in a letter dated January 28, 2026, two weeks after that vote, Richmond BizSense reported on January 30. The project is now cancelled.

More than 450 people packed a public meeting on the project in November 2025. Supervisor Sue Dibble said the plan clashed with the county's comprehensive plan, which recommends the site for homes: "this was simply not a good project in the right place." She said the public process behind that plan, which included "over 10 meetings in the South Anna District alone," "weeds out the bad projects." HHHunt's general manager, Jonathan Ridout, said the company had no comment on what it would do with the land.

It was the second Hanover County data center project to run into organized resident opposition. Supervisors rejected the Tract Mountain Road Technology Park, a 427-acre proposal, by four votes to three, VPM reported June 1, 2026. Both projects were opposed by the group Friends of Hanover, whose organizer, Jennifer Corpus, said: "We really would love to stop playing whack-a-mole with data centers and instead get a data center ordinance, policy and guardrails passed in Virginia."
