Meta's Singapore data center at Tanjong Kling, where the company broke ground in 2018, has been operating since 2022 and covers 170,000 square meters. Facebook, now Meta, announced it in September 2018 as its first purpose-built data center in Asia: an 11-floor, S$1.4 billion building in the western part of Singapore that would use 150MW when fully running, the largest single data center in Singapore at the time.

To save land, the company built upward on a 12-acre plot, and Meta said the building would be a candidate for the world's largest data center under one roof. It was the first Meta data center to use StatePoint Liquid Cooling, developed with Nortek Air Solutions, which Meta says cuts peak water use by more than 20% in a climate like Singapore's, for a projected power usage effectiveness of 1.19. Meta says the site supports more than 100 operational jobs and drew 3,000 skilled trade workers at the peak of construction.

Power is the pressure point in Singapore. Singapore halted new data center development in 2019, allowing only already authorized projects such as Meta's to go ahead, and relaxed the ban in 2022 with a pilot allocation that gave Equinix, GDS, Microsoft and an AirTrunk-ByteDance consortium 80MW in 2023. In December 2025 the Economic Development Board and the Infocomm Media Development Authority opened a second call for at least 200MW, requiring new facilities to be at least 50 percent powered by green energy; applications closed on March 31, 2026. On August 21, 2026 the two agencies provisionally allocated that capacity to four operators, Digital Realty, Equinix, Keppel Data Centres and ST Telemedia Global Data Centres, whose data centers will be built in a low-carbon park on Jurong Island.

Meta buys renewable power for the site. In March 2025 its subsidiary Malkoha Pte signed a 25-year agreement with Sembcorp for a 150MW floating solar project on the Kranji Reservoir, with construction expected to start in the first half of 2027, subject to approvals. Meta earlier signed a 5MW floating solar deal and a 100MW rooftop solar deal with Sunseap.

Any new data center capacity in Singapore is allocated by the Economic Development Board and the Infocomm Media Development Authority through their calls for application.
