Meta Social Circle (Stanton Springs West Campus, Walton County) data center, Social Circle, Georgia

Meta runs a data center campus in Walton County near Social Circle, Georgia, the west campus of its larger Stanton Springs development, which spans Walton, Newton and Morgan counties. The east campus of that development, about 7 kilometers away in Newton County, is at the center of a lawsuit four Mansfield families filed in Gwinnett County court at the end of August 2026, accusing Meta of fouling their well water. The families say tree clearing, blasting and excavation for the campus disturbed the aquifer both campuses draw from.

Meta's Georgia project was the state's first major data center, announced in 2018, when Governor Brian Kemp celebrated it with Facebook-branded shovels at the state Capitol. Meta said a study it commissioned found it "unlikely" that its data centers affected groundwater in the area, and the company has said it will keep defending itself against what it calls "baseless lawsuits." The lawsuit is moving through Gwinnett County court; no hearing date has been made public.
