Mudiita Infra Data Center, Ransom Township, Pennsylvania

A company tied to the Mudiita Group bought 528.6 acres in Ransom Township, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania in July 2026, planning a data center campus advertised at 750 megawatts of power on more than 930 acres. By late July, the deal appeared in flux: the White Haven man listed on the buyer's incorporation papers, Shatrughan Sinha, told WVIA he no longer owns shares in the company, would not name its shareholders, and said there are no current plans for the land. The Mudiita Group's websites have since been taken down.

Mudiita Land Venture LLC paid $2.4 million for the land south of Ransom Road and west of South Keyser Avenue, under a deed dated July 14, 2026, buying it from KF Real Estate LLC. The site sits on Bald Mountain near the Old Forge border, less than half a mile from the Austin Heights neighborhood and about a mile from the Old Forge School District. Sinha said of the data center plan: "Because of the Scranton Material ordinance, they couldn't get it, so [we] decided the other way around."

Most of the land is zoned for open space and conservation or agriculture, not the commercial or light-industrial use the Mudiita Infra website had claimed, and Ransom Township's zoning does not allow data centers at all. Township supervisors chairman Dave Bird said in a text that no one from Mudiita had come to the township. Any data center there would need a zoning change from the township board, the same board that rejected a data center rezoning for Scranton Materials LLC's quarry site in January 2026 after residents' objections; that denial is under appeal.

Part of the same land also appears in a hydroelectric proposal: on July 7, 2026, Pittston-based Renewable Energy Aggregators Inc. filed federal paperwork for a pumped-storage plant using mine water from the Old Forge Borehole, with its upper reservoir on the Mudiita property. Sinha said he first learned of that project the Friday before his interview and does not know whether the land's previous owner had an agreement with its backers.

Lackawanna County Commissioner Bill Gaughan objected to Mudiita's planned use of battery storage instead of diesel generators, saying first responders "didn't sign up to become specialists in fighting industrial battery fires." No application for a data center on the Mudiita land has been filed with Ransom Township; any project would need a zoning change from the township's Board of Supervisors first.
