Project Aggie data center, College Station, Texas

College Station's City Council unanimously rejected the sale of about 200 city-owned acres to Priority Power Management on September 11, 2025, blocking its Project Aggie plan for Midtown Business Park. The proposed site was along Corporate Parkway and Midtown Drive, behind Costco, and the land deal was valued at about $30 million. The developer's conceptual design showed two data-center buildings and two substations, with up to 600 megawatts of power at full buildout; none of that capacity was built.

Residents objected to placing a large industrial campus near homes and to how little time they had to examine the deal. More than 75 people registered to speak at the council meeting, and opponents delivered a petition with 5,047 signatures. They raised noise, water and power concerns, while the city presented a proposed 600- to 900-foot planted buffer and said separate water and power agreements and a sound study would still be needed.

The financial offer was substantial but contested. City officials estimated $10 million to $22 million a year in taxes and electric-fund transfers on top of the land price; their presentation projected 45 permanent jobs. Residents and Midtown developer James Murr questioned whether that was enough employment for 200 acres intended to support the wider business district.

After nearly six hours of public discussion, the council voted down the sale, despite a staff recommendation to approve it. In January 2026, Mayor John Nichols said College Station had begun discussing rules for where future data centers could be placed, but KBTX reported no timetable for those rules. The rejected land agreement did not authorize Project Aggie to proceed on the Midtown site.
