Summit Ridge Data Center, Santaquin, Utah

Santaquin, in Utah County, approved the Summit Ridge data center from Orem-based Data Center Power Company before most residents had heard of it: the City Council amended land use in its commercial light manufacturing zone in October 2024, and site plans were approved in 2025. The 20-plus megawatt campus at 15372 S. Ridge Farms Road, off the Interstate 15 Summit Ridge Parkway exit, would run off-grid on natural gas engines with closed-loop cooling, and no construction start date has been set.

Mayor Dan Olson said the city expects more than $3 million a year in sales tax and up to 100 six-figure jobs: "We need another fire station because from corner to corner, our city, it's 8 miles across it, and we need response times to save lives." Resident Kelsy Trane organized a rally at City Hall and a Change.org petition that passed 1,350 signatures, objecting to the site near the Sunroc gravel pit: "There's a ton of houses just right up on the ridge, and there's townhouses that are even closer and a city park where like all of our children play soccer."

Olson said earlier public hearings were held and "nobody showed up," while Trane argued the postings never made clear a data center was being considered; resident Steven Johnson asked the council, "if this was such a great idea, why did nobody know about it, except you guys?" Olson said the city held 11 public meetings on the project, the last on January 6, 2026; with the land use change and site plans already approved, what remains before construction is a start date from the developer.
