Data4 (Brookfield) data centers: 7 sites mapped

Data4, owned by Brookfield since April 2023, runs more than 30 data centers across France, Italy, Spain, Poland, Germany and Greece, totaling about 1.5 gigawatts. Its biggest project is a 700 megawatt, 5 billion euro campus at Escaudain, in northern France's Hauts-de-France region, on the site of the former Usinor steelworks that closed in 1988. Data4 confirmed the plan in June 2026 after a December 2025 feasibility study picked the site; after a first building, up to four more could follow.

Aymeric Robin, mayor of nearby Raismes, framed the project as closing one industrial era and opening another. "With this major data center campus project dedicated to artificial intelligence, we aim to erase the last remnants of an industrial era and open a new, more technological chapter," he said. President Emmanuel Macron called it part of "reindustrializing, training, innovating and promoting our territories." Data4 is also building a second northern France campus, in the E-Valley at Cambrai on a former air force base, as Brookfield raised its French digital infrastructure pledge from 20 billion to 30 billion euros in June 2026.

In September 2025 Data4 became the first data center operator in France to sign a nuclear supply deal directly with EDF: 12 years, 40 megawatts from the existing reactor fleet, about 230 gigawatt-hours a year starting in 2026. Chief operating officer Francois Sterin called it "a pillar of our growth and competitiveness strategy." The contract sits on top of a separate ten-year deal signed with EDF's Italian utility, Edison Energia, for 500 gigawatt-hours from an Italian solar project.
