ODATA, owned by Aligned Data Centers, is spending $1.3 billion on two new data center campuses on the Sabana de Bogotá. DC BG02, in the Zona Franca de Occidente free-trade zone in Mosquera, is to offer 24 megawatts of power for computers; DC BG03, in the Zona Franca Metropolitana in Tenjo, up to 120 megawatts, which ODATA says will make it Colombia's largest data center. ODATA already runs DC BG01, opened in 2018 with 14.6 megawatts.
The Tenjo campus is built for cloud and artificial intelligence customers and will connect directly to the high-voltage transmission system. A University of the Andes podcast, Cerosetenta, said it could cover up to 65 hectares (about 160 acres) and need as much electricity as a city of 100,000 homes. The podcast asked what it means for the Sabana, a region of farms and homes, to start producing computing power instead. ODATA said the first phases of both new campuses would be finished by the end of 2026.
