Scala Data Centers (DigitalBridge) data centers: 10 sites mapped

Scala Data Centers is a Brazilian data center developer owned by the US investor DigitalBridge, with sites also in Chile, Mexico and Colombia. Its biggest project is Scala Tambore in Barueri, Sao Paulo, a 600 megawatt campus under construction. It has also pitched Scala AI City in Eldorado do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul, a campus proposed to grow to as much as 4.75 gigawatts and cost roughly $50 billion, though the project has not yet entered environmental licensing.

Eldorado do Sul's council rezoned the site's land in December 2024 to make way for it, and officials have linked the project to rebuilding after that year's floods. Scala says its first phase would create more than 3,000 jobs, and the federal government has recognized a grid connection that could let the campus draw up to 1.8 gigawatts by 2033. Two Mbya Guarani communities, Guajayvi and Pekuruty, sit less than three kilometers from the site; in August 2026, Roberto Liebgott of the Indigenous Missionary Council argued they must be consulted on its effects under international labor law.

DigitalBridge has been trying to sell Scala since 2024, but the process stalled in 2025 after several bidders walked away, some over concerns that chief executive Marcos Peigo co-owns a contractor, Modular Data Centers, that builds Scala's facilities.
