Aligned Data Centers data centers: 32 sites mapped

Aligned Data Centers lost a fight in Ohio in August 2026, when Pataskala City Council voted to block its planned 200-megawatt, three-building campus in the Pataskala Corporate Park, Licking County, after a meeting that ran more than three hours. The city's planning and zoning commission had already voted 5-2 to recommend denial. "There was big concerns with the power alone," Council President Brandon Galik said after the unanimous vote. Pataskala voters decide on Nov. 3 whether to ban large data centers outright. Aligned, based in Dallas, runs 51 campuses across the Americas with more than 6.4 GW of operating and planned capacity; a consortium including BlackRock's Global Infrastructure Partners and the Abu Dhabi investor MGX bought the company from Macquarie Asset Management for $40 billion.

In Maryland, Aligned is building four buildings on Quantum Frederick, the former Alcoa Eastalco aluminum plant site south of Frederick. Its first attempt stalled when regulators denied its backup-generator permits, but after a 2024 state law exempted those generators, it returned and broke ground on the first building in February 2025. Frederick County residents gathered more than 21,000 signatures for a referendum on the county's data center zoning, but Maryland's Supreme Court upheld a ruling against putting it to a vote. County Executive Jessica Fitzwater has since paused new data center approvals until Dec. 31, 2026, though the pause does not cover Quantum Frederick, which was already approved.

Its largest project is Project Phoenix, a 2 GW campus in the Shippingport Industrial Park, Beaver County, Pennsylvania, on the site of the former Bruce Mansfield coal plant. Aligned broke ground there on Sept. 10 and says the campus will draw power from a dedicated on-site source rather than the local grid. "I feel they're popping up everywhere like Dollar General stores," said Jai-Ellen St. George of Midland. In Ohio, Aligned is also building NEO-01, a 96MW data center near Sandusky, and has bought land in Conesville, where it has not yet broken ground.
