Data centers in Douglas County, Nebraska: 1 project mapped

In Douglas County the data center question is electricity. Nebraska Public Media reported in December 2025 that data centers used 1% of the electricity sold by the Omaha Public Power District in 2018 and 21% in 2024, and are projected to reach 41% by 2035. OPPD has been adding gas-fired generation at Turtle Creek in Sarpy County and in Cass County. The same month, the OPPD board approved an average 6.3% rate increase for 2026, including 6% for residential customers and 8.9% for industrial customers. It also extended operations at the North Omaha Station, where two units still burn coal, while adding planning steps toward their eventual retirement and conversion. Nebraska Public Media reported that OPPD retail rates will have risen about 20% since 2021. OPPD chief financial officer Brad Underwood denied that data center demand is driving up residential rates, saying the utility's cost-of-service method is meant to "make sure that cost-causers are cost- payers."

Douglas County's main data center is Google's campus on the northwest edge of Omaha, near State Street and Blair High Road. Google announced it in April 2022 with a planned $750 million investment. Documents filed with the City of Omaha under the name Westwood Solutions, LLC described about four buildings totaling more than 1.4 million square feet, according to DCD. At the time it was Google's third facility in the Omaha area, after Papillion in neighboring Sarpy County and Council Bluffs across the river in Iowa.

Google paid to speed up road work around the site. Douglas County engineer Todd Pfitzer told the Omaha World-Herald that Google was paying for culvert work on State Street and a three-lane widening toward Blair High Road, and for an extension of 120th Street north to Rainwood Road. The county had estimated the work would cost about $5 million. "Google couldn't wait the six or eight years it would take for the county to get to this," Pfitzer said. State Street runs through the rapidly growing suburbs between northwest Omaha and Bennington.
