Data centers in Erie County, Ohio: 1 project mapped

Aligned Data Centers is building the first of four data center buildings at 2509 Hayes Avenue in Perkins Township, just south of Sandusky, on the site of a former auto parts plant. The company paid $52 million for the 129 acres in 2023, is spending more than $200 million on the first phase and planned to finish the first building this year. A second, larger proposal in Oxford Township, AVAIO Digital's Project Andromeda, has been tabled.

Perkins Township welcomed Aligned. Its trustees, the school board and the career center agreed to return 70% of the new property taxes to the project for 30 years and share the other 30%, and Aligned paid the township $325,000 up front. The first building is expected to create 18 permanent jobs by February 2027. "From my lens, as an educator, this has been a godsend," said Perkins Schools Superintendent Lonny Rivera.

Oxford Township was different. AVAIO proposed a 250-megawatt, four-building campus on 146 rural acres near the EHOVE Career Center. Hundreds came to the developers' meeting, many shouting objections, and yard signs went up along the roads. The township trustees then tabled the project, saying it was "not in the best interest" of the community. The developer plans to revisit it after the November 3, 2026, election.
