Data centers in Walla Walla County, Washington: 1 project mapped

Walla Walla County is in line for Amazon's biggest Eastern Washington data center project. Port commissioners voted unanimously on February 12, 2026 to sell 553 acres of the Wallula Gap Business Park to Amazon Web Services, which plans a $5 billion complex of 16 data centers built in four phases. On September 12 Amazon Data Services filed a land-use application for the first piece, the Amazon Attalia Data Center Campus, on 134 acres along Sundance Road: three 220,000-square-foot data centers, a security building, an industrial water facility and space for a future substation.

The county has deemed the application complete and opened public comment until October 12. Amazon has declined to be specific about the project's energy use; at an August 11 open house, its representatives said the campus would power AI and cloud computing, which College Place resident Rikki Wescott said contradicted earlier claims that it was not an AI data center. Opposition has organized as the Walla Walla Anti-Data Center League, which is asking for a one-year countywide moratorium. "People are actually in a state of panic right now," Robynn Snow said of the water demand at a September 14 commission meeting.

All three commissioners have refused a pause. "If a company is able to acquire water rights, acquire power, acquire land in our industrial zone, and wishes to put in a data center, I say keep them coming," said Commissioner Todd Kimball. Commissioner Gunner Fulmer said the county cannot treat one business differently from others that cause light and noise, and that the state environmental review would answer impact questions. Walla Walla already has small data centers run by Vivio Technologies, Fusion Connect and PocketiNet. After the comment period closes October 12, comments go to Amazon and the county's Community Development Department, before a final decision on the Attalia campus.
