For about two years the biggest industrial project in Beaver Dam's history went by the name Degas LLC; Meta did not confirm it was the developer until fall 2025, when it announced a data center campus of more than 700,000 square feet on the 520-acre site once marketed as the Beaver Dam Commerce Park. Meta puts the investment at more than $1 billion, with about 1,000 construction jobs and 100 permanent ones, and expects the campus online in 2027. "This is the biggest industrial development Beaver Dam has ever seen and probably will ever see, and most of the community was in the dark," one resident told TMJ4.

The fight has been over power and secrecy. Alliant Energy's first filing of its service contract with Meta redacted the key figures; a neighbor, Steve Rydzewski, told TMJ4, "They're claiming Meta is going to pay for this infrastructure, but everything's redacted." After objections the utility refiled in February, showing the campus would draw up to 220 megawatts, six to eight times Beaver Dam's current load, under a 10-year contract. State regulators approved a modified contract in May while criticizing the secrecy and ordered Alliant to write a public tariff for future data centers over 100 megawatts. A Dane County judge ruled August 17 that the state Public Service Commission had unlawfully withheld the project's load projections; the commission released them without appealing.
