Amazon Web Services runs a data center in Kutanegara, part of Karawang Regency in West Java, Indonesia, one of the buildings behind AWS's Asia Pacific (Jakarta) Region. It sits on Jalan Surya Utama inside the Suryacipta City of Industry estate, about an hour from Jakarta by toll road.
West Java won the project in 2019, after governor Ridwan Kamil said in June that year that Amazon had committed to a data center investment of about 1 trillion rupiah in the province. The province offered three sites and Amazon chose Karawang; by December 2019 the regional government had signed off on the plan, and its labor department was already running cloud computing training with AWS.
AWS told reporters in November 2019 that the Jakarta region would have three availability zones, each with at least one data center. The region opened on December 14, 2021, with a pledge of $5 billion, about 71 trillion rupiah, over 15 years, which AWS estimated would support 24,700 jobs a year.
The Suryacipta estate, which hosts the Kutanegara site, says on its own website that Amazon has spent 35 trillion rupiah on data centers in its Karawang industrial park.
